Vacancy at Future Tenant and glimpses of zine pages for Stacks!

Future Tenant Gallery had a fantastic fundraiser a few weeks ago at a vacant building (soon to be a Thai restaurant) in Pittsburgh's East Liberty. Michael and I had a fabulous time, and I included two pictures below from Future Tenant's wall of photos from the event. I had two pieces of art in the raffle, and I'm overjoyed that "Sister Moon" went to the really nice young woman who was manning the virtual graffiti wall. I'm still not sure who took "Oracle" home, but I was so grateful to be part of the raffle and see my works next to so many beautiful pieces. Michael and I were really fortunate to have won a gorgeous, ceramic bas relief by artist Thomas Rehm.
Me at the virtual graffiti wall at Future Tenant Gallery's
awesome Vacancy Fundraiser!

A view of some of the art at Vacancy!

A page (in progress) for my 'zine for Light Grey Art Lab's Stacks exhibition, which will open
August 1st!

Another double-spread, in-progress glimpse of pages from the 'zine that is destined
for Minneapolis in July for the August exhibition!
The Blair Mountain Comic is still underway, and more glimpses of that will appear here shortly. Stay tuned!

Stacks Exhibition and More from Blair Mountain....

I'm so excited to be part of the artists who will create 'zines
for the Light Grey Art Lab's exhibition, "Stacks"! My year
is 1988, and as I begin working on the 'zine, I'll provide some
glimpses!

Working on The Blair Mountain Comic for Cartoon Picayune!

An in-progress page!

Me, at the drafting table. I can't work without my reading
glasses now. Gah! :-) Nope, that's not an optical illusion.
My hair is indeed purple in the front.

A Sure Sign of Spring....

Working steadily on the Blair Mountain Comic between copyedting
manuscripts!

My tiny daffodils are blooming...a sure sign of spring!

Shortly, the living room will smell fantastic, since the
hyacinths will be blooming soon.

My lunch: a mustard green-hemp-seed-almond milk
smoothie, with turmeric (which is why my thumb is slightly
yellow....still not sure how that happened.)

Work images and framing works for the Vacancy fundraiser at Future Tenant!

Front and center is Women in Water: Miss Quentin Compson; "Sister Moon"
is to the right, and pages for my Blair Mountain comic are all around.

Remember "The Dream Chair"? I painted it back in 2012, and I was working on a
hand embroidered upholstery cover....like, forever. I'm still working on that embroidery.
However, I started thinking about putting it in the Women in Water exhibition, and while
the fabric here is not what I'll be using, there is something equally cool that is being
printed at Spoonflower right now. Details to come once I start the upholstery process.

Working on framing two works.....

"Oracle" and "Sister Moon" are all framed and ready to go to the
Vacancy Fundraiser for Future Tenant Gallery!

New Publications and some upstairs studio shots....

I'm so excited to be the cover image for the Spring 2014 issue of  Your Impossible Voice!
Above is a screen capture of their site. Hard copies are on the way in the mail, and as soon as
they arrive, I will take pics!

"Loretta & Pies in the Sky" is also part of The Boiler Journal's art section!
A screen capture of the pdf file available online is just above.
You can check out the whole issue here:

"Magic Snail" has returned from Hudson, NY's awesome Limner Gallery,
where it was part of February's "Small Works" exhibition.
It is now for sale in my Etsy shop.
You can see a close-up by clicking on this sentence.

The delightful mess on my studio table. Is that an issue of
ClothPaperScissors under that heap of stuff? Why, yes it is!

Things happen with wine in my studio on Friday afternoons. :-)

Page One of The Blair Mountain Comic and Your Impossible Voice...

Right now, I'm working on a graphic story of The Battle of Blair Mountain for the
Cartoon Picayune. Here is page 1....inking is underway!

I'm honored to have "Corrine and the Far Away" from the Women in Water Series as the cover image for Issue #3
of Your Impossible Voice. You can see Corrine is the keynote image on YIV's Twitter account! :-D

Mirror Twins Pillows and Fred gets a shave and a bath....

The mirror twins pillows are stuffed!

Michael gave Fred a shave, and he seemed to enjoy it, as seen by his chipper expression.
....but when Daddy got him wet, Fred's enthusiasm for the enterprise deflated, as seen here.

Character Pillows, My Supervisors, Cartoon Picayune Page, and Somethin' New.....

For my fall exhibition at York Arts, I am making Women in Water character pillows.
Below, is "Freckled Mrs. Goldsmith," and above, "Loretta and Pies in the Sky," is
based on a drawing that will appear in the next issue of The Boiler Journal.

My supervisors this morning are asleep at the helm....as usual.... :-)

So I am laying out & inking up draft pages for my Blair Mountain graphic story, which
I am creating for The Cartoon Picayune.

I'm making a foray into something entirely new.....also part of the Women in Water theme, but
this time, in full color. This work is in progress right now. I'll follow up with new pics when it's all done.

Pillows, Fabric, New Drawing, & Charity Raffle Images...

Been working on pillows for the October exhibition at York Arts.
The fabric on the front is from my "Loretta and Pies in the Sky"
drawing from the Women in Water series.

The back of the pillow....using some pretty fabric from my late
Aunt Anne's fabric stash.

I've designed some new fabric at Spoonflower, using more drawings from
my Women in Water Series. Here "Freckled Mrs. Goldsmith" will
eventually be sewn into a character pillow for the October exhibition at York Arts.

Working on a new Woman in Water drawing....I'm thinking the title will be something like
"Hardtack Sally" (hardtack refers to the hard pretzel-like food men kept on them during the
Civil War)

My mixed media work, "Oracle: New Phases, New Moons" will be part of
Future Tenant Gallery's charity raffle this spring....details will follow soon!
